Over 6,206 police personnel, including 1,828 in capital Dhaka, Bangladesh have now tested positive for coronavirus.
The Police Public Relations Officer at Bangladesh Police headquarters, AKM Kamrul Ahsan, who disclosed on Sunday, the 7th June 2020, via a press statement, said that 16 of the personnel have died from the virus.
“Out of these,16 police personnel died of the infection,” he said.
The PPRO further added that a civilian, working with the law enforcement agency, also died due to COVID-19.
He, however, said that out of the 6,206 infected policemen, 2,767 have fully recovered as on Sunday.
Ahsan also explained that Bangladesh Policemen, along with other agencies, have been rendering services to ensure social distancing across the country since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
COVID-19 has so far spread to nearly every Bangladeshi district and the number of cases rose to 65,769 with 888 deaths on Sunday, the 7th day of June 2020.
Recall that the Bangladeshi government had imposed the COVID-19 lockdown from March 26 and later extended the shutdown in phases till May 30 before taking a break.
The government as a measure to contain the further spread of the virus has planned to re-impose area-wise lockdown in capital Dhaka and elsewhere in the country.
